ITINERARY

Evening Arrival

Arrive at the Mountain Meadows Lodge** and relax into your Vermont getaway by taking in expansive Green Mountain views from the deck and enjoying a refreshing craft cocktail or local brew. The lodge’s excellent bistro is a convenient dinner choice, featuring locally sourced specialties and delicious homemade desserts.

DAY ONE:

Morning Riding at Sherburne Trails

Fuel up with a country breakfast in the bistro before heading out for a day of exploring Sherburne Trails. The network’s 18 miles of trails are maintained by the Killington Mountain Bike Club in the Green Mountain National Forest and through a partnership with the Town of Killington and U.S. Forest Service. These trails are best enjoyed by intermediate and advanced riders, since most feature lots of elevation changes. Easier multi-use trails can be accessed via the Sherburne Trails trailhead, about 2 miles north on Route 100.

BYOB: The Sherburne Trails are accessible right from the Mountain Meadows Lodge, so just unrack your bikes and go. No trail pass is required.

RENT: Less than 1/2 mile from the Lodge, visit Base Camp** to rent your bikes. You can set out onto the western section of the trails right from Base Camp, or take a short ride back to the Lodge to access the eastern section. Base Camp also offers guided tours, which must be booked in advance.

Later in the afternoon, venture out for a hike up to the Deer Leap Overlook, located at the top of the Sherburne pass on Route 4, just a few miles from the Lodge. This short but steep hike offers spectacular views and its trailhead is conveniently located behind McGrath’s Irish Pub. The casual atmosphere is ideal after a day outdoors and you’re likely to bump into ravenous hikers with fun stories from their time on the nearby Appalachian Trail. For other dinner-time cuisine options, explore the variety of restaurants along the Killington Road.

DAY TWO:

Killington Bike Park

Eat like a local and pull into the Sunup Bakery on the Killington Road on your way to the Killington Bike Park**. The coffee and quick bites served from this classic Vermont A-frame are a perfect start to your day of lift-served downhill mountain biking.

BYOB: If you have a full-suspension bike and plan to stick to the green and blue trails in the bike park, you can use your own bike. If advanced features and jumping are on your agenda, consider renting a dedicated downhill bike and gear.

RENT: Killington rents downhill bikes that are set-up for the type of riding you plan to do, as well as protective gear (full-face helmet, knee and elbow pads.) All sizes available and conveniently located at the base of the lifts.

There’s plenty of terrain to explore at the Killington Bike Park and the trails are clearly marked and easy to navigate. If you’re new to downhill mountain biking, private and group lessons are available. One not-to-miss experience is a ride down “Off the Top”, a 3-mile descent from the top of Killington Peak. Hop on the K1 Express Gondola, stop for a snack or lunch surrounded by panoramic views at the Peak Lodge and then cruise down to the resort base more than 1,700 feet below.
